ICC is
an open-door institution. A student
may be admitted to ICC upon meeting
one of the following conditions:

Kansas residents who have
completed a four-year course
of study in an accredited
high school. A transcript of
high school credits, showing
date of graduation, must be
on file if you are applying
for scholarships and/or
financial aid or if you plan
on graduating from
Independence Community
College.

Non-Kansas residents who are
graduates of an accredited
high school and who can
present supporting evidence
to indicate that they can
benefit from the educational
program and contribute to
it.

 |
Transfers from other
colleges who have completed
an application for admission
form and submitted copies of
official transcripts for all
prior college hours.
|
 |
Part-time high school
students who have junior
status from an accredited
high school and have a
written recommendation from
the high school principal
may enroll in a limited
number of college courses.

Kansas residents whose high
school class has graduated
and who have successfully
passed the General Education
Development (GED)
Examination.
|
 |
ICC requires that all
incoming freshman take the
COMPASS test to ensure
proper placement in classes.
The COMPASS test,
administered free of charge,
is given throughout the
year. If there are
extenuating circumstances
regarding testing and
recommended placement
see ICC's Basic Skills
coordinator.

Correspondence Study
A
maximum of 15 semester hours of
correspondence, extension, or
military credit will be accepted
toward graduation.
Credit
By Examination
Students whose educational
experiences appear to have given
them proficiency in a course
equivalent to that ordinarily
attained by taking the course in a
regular class may be granted
permission to take a comprehensive
examination in the course.
To
qualify for examination, a student
must:

Enroll in the specific course
and pay regular tuition and
fees.

Have the approval of the Dean of
Instructional Services, the
Division Chairperson, and the
instructor of the course.
Not
all courses are available for credit
by examination.
Credit
for Military Service
The
State Department of Education
permits the granting of school
credits for military service. In the
granting of credit, ICC adheres to
the recommendations of the American
Council on Education. A maximum of
15 semester hours of military
service credit may be applied toward
graduation.
Transfer of Credits from
Non-Accredited Institutions
Credits from postsecondary
institutions not accredited by a
regional accrediting association may
be accepted for evaluation and
possible transfer of credit.
