Theatre Students Return from
American College Theatre
Festival
The Independence Community
College Theatre department
recently returned from the
Region V Kennedy Center American
College Theatre Festival in
Kansas City held January 17-22.
Theatre faculty and students
participated in several events
and special recognitions were
earned.
Theatre students Jeff
Shallington, Abi Epp, Jerica
Hucke and Delaney McCormack were
invited to participate in the
Irene Ryan Acting Auditions.
According to Professor Jon
Sidoli, they held their own
against larger institutions and
graduate students.
“We were quite proud of their
work,” said Sidoli, who teaches
theatre arts training at ICC.
“Students also auditioned for
summer stock companies and
several received callbacks from
those auditions.”
The fall production of Sarah
Ruhl’s Eurydice had been
previously honored as a ‘held’
production. Though the
show, because of logistics was
not taken to the event, the show
earned a Meritorious Achievement
Award for guest artist/adjunct
instructor Carissa Thorlakson’s
costume design.
Inge Theatre Production Manager
Ryan Andrus served as the
Festival Coordinator for the
Stage Crew Showdown, an amazing
display of coordination and
teamwork from student tech crews
from all over the region.
Professor Sidoli gave a
well-attended workshop entitled
“No Whine or Cheese, Please!”
for students wanting to work on
audition monologues.
Professor Sidoli also
participated in the festival’s
Faculty Acting Showcase where
performed in front of a theatre
full of acting students and
other faculty.
The students are currently in
rehearsal for Nickel and Dimed
by Joan Holden, directed by Ms.
Thorlakson. Based on the book by
Barbara Eisenreich, that
explores how women in low-salary
jobs survive in a complex world.
The show will be performed in
the Inge Theatre on February
25-28.
