Independence Community College Cosmetology students are getting a new opportunity to learn directly from professionals working in the beauty industry through the program’s new Master Class Mondays series.
The series kicked off with Wyatt Snellbaker of Empire Barbershop, who returned to ICC to work with current cosmetology students and share techniques, skills and insight from his experience in the industry.
Snellbaker, an alumnus of the ICC Cosmetology program, led students through hands-on demonstrations while sharing his own experiences working professionally as a barber. The session gave students an opportunity to see techniques demonstrated in real time, ask questions and learn more about career paths available after completing the program.
“Cosmetology is an industry where there is always something new to learn, and there is so much value in giving our students the opportunity to learn from professionals who are actively working in the field,” ICC Cosmetology Director Chelsey Bailey said. “It makes it even more special to have Wyatt, an alumnus of our program, come back and share his skills and experience with our current students. It’s a great example of where this program can take them and the connections they can continue to have long after they graduate.”
Master Class Mondays are designed to bring professionals from different areas of the beauty industry into the classroom throughout the year, exposing students to additional techniques, specialties and career opportunities while complementing the skills they are developing through ICC’s Cosmetology program.
By connecting students with professionals working in the field, the series also gives students a chance to build relationships within the industry and gain a better understanding of what to expect as they prepare to begin their own careers.
The ICC Cosmetology program provides students with hands-on training and experience designed to prepare them for careers in the beauty industry and professional licensure.
