Independence Community College (ICC) has been recognized as a 2026–2027 Military Friendly® School, reflecting the college’s ongoing commitment to serving veterans, active-duty service members, and their families.
The Military Friendly® Schools designation evaluates institutions based on public data and responses to a comprehensive survey, measuring effectiveness in areas such as student support, retention, graduation, and career outcomes for military-connected students. More than 3,200 institutions participated in this year’s evaluation.
At ICC, supporting military-connected students goes beyond access; it’s about creating an environment where they can successfully transition, grow, and achieve their goals. Through personalized support services, flexible learning options, and a strong sense of community, ICC works to meet students where they are and help them move forward with confidence.
“We are proud to be recognized as a Military Friendly® School because it reflects the work happening every day to support our students who have served,” said Taylor Crawshaw, Interim President of Independence Community College. “At ICC, we are committed to creating pathways that honor their experiences, support their goals, and connect them to meaningful opportunities in Southeast Kansas and beyond.”
ICC’s approach focuses on accessibility, student-centered support, and workforce-aligned programs that help military-connected students transition into careers that strengthen both their families and the region.
“Veterans and military-connected students bring leadership, resilience, and real-world experience into the classroom,” said David Adams, Vice President of Student Operations. “Our role is to ensure they have the support systems in place to succeed—from enrollment through graduation and into their careers.”
ICC will be featured in the 2026–2027 Guide to Military Friendly® Schools, published in the April issue of G.I. Jobs® magazine and available at MilitaryFriendly.com.
“Earning the Military Friendly® designation is more than a badge of honor; it is a reflection of an institution’s deep-rooted values and strategic commitment to those who served. These schools don’t just open doors for veterans and military spouses, they build sustainable pathways for academic success and long-term impact. Their support is transformative, proving that investing in military-connected students is both a moral imperative and a standard for educational excellence.”
