The Independence Community College Fab Lab is inviting young innovators to explore hands-on learning this summer through its upcoming SparkSquad camps, a series of interactive programs focused on construction, welding, metalcasting, and manufacturing skills.
Hosted at the ICC Fab Lab, the camps give students the opportunity to work directly with tools, technology, and materials used in modern manufacturing and fabrication environments. Participants will learn practical skills while building projects and exploring potential career pathways in technical and creative fields.
The SparkSquad Construction Camp will be offered in two sessions, taking place May 26–29 and June 1–4. Additional camps will follow throughout the summer, including Welding Camp #1 (June 8–11), Metalcasting Camp (June 15–18), Welding Camp #2 (June 22–25), Welding Camp #3 (July 6–9), and Manufacturing Camp (July 13–16). Informational Sessions will take place on March 30th and April 2nd at 5:30 pm at the Fab Lab.
Each camp provides hands-on instruction designed to introduce students to fabrication techniques, problem-solving, and creative design. Participants will gain experience working with equipment and materials while learning how ideas can be transformed into real-world projects.
“These camps give students the chance to experience hands-on learning in a way that builds confidence and curiosity,” said David Staton, ICC Fab Lab Director. “When students get the opportunity to design, build, and create something themselves, it opens their eyes to new possibilities and career paths they may not have considered before.”
Located within ICC’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the ICC Fab Lab serves as a community-based makerspace where students, entrepreneurs, and community members can access advanced fabrication tools and technology to design, prototype, and create new products.
Through programs like SparkSquad, ICC continues to expand opportunities for young learners to develop practical skills, explore STEM-related careers, and discover the possibilities of modern manufacturing and digital fabrication.
The ICC Fab Lab is located at 3884 CR 3730 in Independence. Community members interested in learning more about upcoming camps and events can visit www.iccfablab.org/events for additional information and registration details.
