Financial Aid

Paying for college doesn’t have to be overwhelming. At Independence Community College, financial aid includes grants, scholarships, work-study, and loans that can lower or even cover your costs. The first step is to complete the FAFSA, which determines what you qualify for. Once you submit your FAFSA, our team will guide you through your options and help you make college affordable.

• Students who are eligible to receive a refund will be notified by email when their refund is available.
• Students may also check their Self-Service account after each disbursement date to determine whether a refund has been processed to their account.
• Additional unscheduled disbursements may occur between the scheduled disbursement dates. Students who become eligible for a will also receive an email notification.
• Notification emails will include information regarding refund availability, pick-up dates, and pick-up times.

 

Undergraduate Students:

• Eligibility – Students who receive non-federal scholarships and grants that cover their full cost of attendance are not eligible for a Pell Grant

• Annual Loan Limits – No Change
• Schedule of Reductions – Loan amounts will be adjusted based on enrollment level
• Loan amounts may adjust in future semesters if courses are dropped or withdrawn below full-time status (12 hours) after aid is disbursed and/or students may have to return aid after it is disbursed. 

Types of Financial Aid

By filing the FAFSA, you could be eligible for in Kansas:

• Grants - federal financial aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant, that does not have to be repaid
• Scholarships - institutional financial aid that does not have to be repaid
• Work-study opportunities - part-time employment that helps finance your education
• Loans - borrowed money that must be repaid with interest

Important: FAFSA isn’t the money itself. It’s the application that determines what you qualify for, including federal, state, and even college-specific aid.
